Strike suspended at Grampian foods

The Transport and General Workers Union has suspended its planned 24-hour strike action on Thursday by over 2,600 pork and poultry workers at Grampian Foods. It has agreed to attend Acas, the Arbitration Conciliation and Advisory Service.

The dispute is over pay freezes and pension cuts at one of the Britain’s largest food processors.

According to Chris Kaufman of the T&G union, the vote to strike, “was inevitable after Grampian had first prevaricated on the issues and then failed to use the time we offered when the T&G suspended the ballot to enter into meaningful talks.”

Workers are concerned that agency staff used across the company do not get the same treatment as permanent staff.

Grampian supplies the big four supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda and Morrisons, as well as Marks and Spencer.
