Tesco drivers 96 percent vote for strike

Tesco distribution drivers at Livingston near Edinburgh have voted in overwhelming numbers to take industrial action, including strike action.

They are protesting against Tesco’s plans to redraw terms and conditions when they relocate their distribution depot just 500 yards down the road.

In a high turnout, where over 92 percent of the drivers took part, there was a massive 95.5 per cent in favour of strike action (126 for strike, six against).

Talks between Tesco and the T&G union have started at the Acas arbitration service. These will continue into next week, and while they are in progress the union has said it will not name any dates for strikes or any other form of industrial action.
