Members of the Community union at Wybone factory in Barnsley thought their wage dispute was settled when management called a meeting on Thursday of last week.
Instead the managing director called the union members a “drunken mob” and said he was happy to save money each Friday they were on strike.
Last Friday’s picket line was lively. Workers are angry that the managing director is trying to attack union organisation.
One picket said, “He could settle this dispute very easily but he doesn’t want to see a union here.”
The managing director jumped in his car and raced after a Royal Mail van that refused to cross the picket line in a desperate attempt to get his mail.
Last week seven other delivery lorries also refused to cross the line.
