Hull City Council’s building contractors Kingstown Works Ltd (KWL) and Connaught are sacking more than 50 workers who carry out maintenance and repair work on Hull council houses and the council’s “Decent Homes” scheme.
Workers, represented by the UCATT and Unison unions, staged a rally at KWL on Sutton Fields industrial estate last Friday and held a mass meeting demanding the immediate reinstatement of the 16 workers already made redundant.
The unions are preparing for an indicative ballot on industrial action.
