Socialist Worker supporters are backing Jerry Hicks in the election for general secretary of the Unite union.
He is the candidate best placed to give voice to the rank and file feeling for more determined resistance to job losses and cuts—and for a democratic union.
In the 2009 election for the general secretary of the Amicus section of Unite, Jerry came second to Derek Simpson with nearly 40,000 votes.
Jerry has a long and distinguished record as a militant. He started work at Rolls Royce, Bristol, in 1975 and became a shop steward, deputy convenor and then convenor. In 2005 he was sacked after an occupation that saved the jobs of two workers.
Since then he has thrown himself into a wide range of trade union and political activity.
