The atmosphere at the conference of the rail workers’ TSSA conference last week was very good. Delegates regularly overturned the executive.
Yorkshire North branch moved a motion to only nominate or support the election of Labour candidates if they include in their manifesto a commitment to a publicly owned and accountable railway. It won a two-thirds majority.
A motion from Anglia number one branch censured the executive for donating to Labour’s election campaign despite a conference decision to only make a donation if Labour supported a publicly owned and accountable railway. The motion won.
Another motion noted the recent Irish Right to Work protests and encouraged members to participate in similar protests. Despite executive opposition, it won overwhelmingly.
