First strike ballot at Nestle

Workers at food giant Nestle are to hold their first ever national ballot for industrial action over pay.

The Unite union members accuse the company of a policy of “pay restraint” and refusing to enter into national negotiations.

Nestle has offered a pay “rise” of just 1 percent, far below inflation.

The company has sites in York, Glasgow, Halifax and Castleford in West Yorkshire, Dalston in Cumbria, Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, Sudbury in Suffolk and Aintree in Merseyside.

The ballot will begin in the next few weeks.
