Civil service workers protest

The Tories this week began to push through legislation that would slash civil service workers’ redundancy payments.

They want to cut the cost of making civil servants redundant by two thirds, clearing the way for mass job cuts.

The PCS union, which organised three days of strikes against attacks on the scheme earlier this year, lobbied parliament against the plans on Tuesday. It will need to restart the action to beat these attacks off.

The Prospect and Unite unions were also to lobby parliament on Thursday of this week. Both unions made a deal with the former Labour government that would have left workers worse off.

This time, they should organise to take co-ordinated strikes with the PCS.
