Thousands of managers and technicians at Network Rail are to ballot for strikes for equal pay.
The TSSA rail workers’ union claims that female staff are paid £4,000 a year less than male staff in the same grade. The union said that the firm had refused to carry out a fair pay audit and imposed a 2.5 percent pay rise on white collar staff, while other employees got 5.2 percent.
The ballot ends on 18 August and a strike would hit stations in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Leeds.
