The Scottish Defence League (SDL)—an offshoot of the racist EDL—was run out of Edinburgh last Saturday by a counter-protest of around 400 people organised by Unite Against Fascism (UAF).

Some 70 SDL racists were penned in. They had wanted to “commemorate 9/11” by marching. But they were banned by the council and prevented on the day by the counter-protest, which marched instead along Princes Street to face them.

The SDL includes sympathisers of loyalist terrorist groups in Northern Ireland and the so-called “North West Infidels”.

The STUC, Edinburgh City Unison, Leith Labour Party and the Scottish Transgender Alliance all brought banners.
