Scottish teachers vote overwhelmingly for strikes

by Sadie Robinson

Teachers in Scotland’s biggest teaching union, the EIS, have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action to defend their pensions.

More than 82 percent backed action in the ballot, with a turnout of 54 percent. The vote means that around 60,000 Scottish teachers are set to join other unions by striking on 30 November.

The EIS website makes clear that, “the intention of the EIS is to take strike action”.

Andrew Fullwood, a member of the EIS council, told Socialist Worker, “This is a great result with a good turnout. Now we need to prepare for 30 November and beyond to make sure we win.”
