Kenya: strike deal reinstates 25,000 nurses

The Kenyan government has withdrawn the sacking of 25,000 striking nurses and other health workers.

The unions have reached an agreement ending their two‑week strike for better pay.

Prime minister Raila Odinga issued a statement saying “all the issues raised by the health workers would be addressed exhaustively.”

The workers struck from 1 March to protest the government’s failure to raise wages. They were also demanding improved services in Kenya’s run-down hospitals.

The strike brought the health service to a standstill.
