Oil workers set to march in London

Workers from the Coryton oil refinery in Essex are set to march in London tomorrow (Thursday) to demand government action to save their jobs.

Processing at the refinery is set to stop within days, throwing 850 people out of work.

Russ Ball, Unite union regional organiser, told Socialist Worker, 'We’re just demanding they help us like they helped the banks. 

'They have a moral responsibility to step in—if Coryton goes the whole area will be devastated.”

Workers and their supporters will march first on the department

for energy and climate change in Whitehall and then to the

headquarters of oil giant Shell. 

The company plan to which to convert the refinery into a terminal with a much smaller workforce.
