The UCU lecturers’ union is set to ballot its members in universities for industrial action over pay.
Some 70 percent had voted in a consultative ballot to reject the employers’ below-inflation pay offer of 0.8 percent.
The ballot is now set to start in early September with a view to action in October.
A conference has been called on 13 September for UCU members in the pre‑1992 universities to discuss the next steps in their dispute to defend their USS pension scheme.
