The National Executive and national officer elections in the UCU union are set to open in a few weeks’ time.
UCU Left supports Liz Lawrence for Vice President (HE) and Gavin Reid for Treasurer, as well as other candidates for NEC seats.
The context for these elections is of an education system and education workers under huge assault.
UCU has lost over 6,000 members through job cuts since the beginning of last year.
It needs the kind of campaigning strategy advocated by Liz and Gavin to reverse these losses.
Liz and Gavin’s opponents are both NEC members who consistently voted against action over pensions. They voted to ignore the 70 percent ballot result for action over pay in higher education a few months ago.
Liz and Gavin were the only two national negotiators who voted to support the democratic mandate of the members.
