More than 200 anti-fascists turned out to oppose the racist Scottish Defence League (SDL) in Pollokshields, Glasgow, on Sunday of last week.
In an astonishing police operation, the racists were escorted into the most multicultural area of Glasgow. It took 15 vans, six horses, two helicopters and 250 cops to “facilitate” just 12 SDL thugs.
People were furious. Protesters from Unite Against Fascism Scotland gathered to stop them reaching the memorial of a murdered man.
His family did not want racists exploiting his death. As the day wore on more people came out to protest.
An inquiry is underway into the policing of racists and Nazis after a protest to defend refugees was halted in June to let Nazis march.
Strathclyde police recorded more stop and searches last year than London’s Metropolitan Police.
After the protest 40 people met and called another protest for Saturday of this week.
