Bosses announce cap on births at Whittington hospital

Bosses at Whittington Hospital in north London announced plans to close the A&E and wards last week.

They also want to sell hospital accommodation worth £17 million.

Bosses also plan to cap the number of births at the hospital at 4,000 a year.

The Whittington’s director of estates and facilities, Philip Lent, said that services that don’t “directly contribute to the corporate objectives” should be reviewed or cut.

More A&E closures are planned at Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals in west London.

In 2010 campaigners stopped a plan to close A&E and maternity services at Whittington Hospital.
